Where to save from
Wells is our list of sites worth drawing on — filterable by subject, and linkable once you have filtered it.
An empty library is the hardest one to start. Wells is a list of places worth saving from: space archives, museum collections with open licences, game art, type specimens, and the feeds where visual work turns up before it is anywhere else.
Every entry is a site we save out of ourselves. Nothing is there for a fee.
Filtering it#
The box at the top filters as you type, across the name, the address, the subject tags and the description. Every word has to match, so two words narrow rather than widen — game-dev ui finds the sites that are both.
Underneath it are the subjects that recur most across the list. Clicking one fills the box with it; clicking it again clears it.
Linking to a filtered list#
A subject you have clicked ends up in the address, so a filtered list can be shared or bookmarked:
| URL | Opens on |
|---|---|
jayboard.com/wells | Everything |
jayboard.com/wells?q=game-dev | The game art and asset sites |
jayboard.com/wells?q=public-domain | The ones you can use without asking |
Typing in the box does not change the address — only a subject does, so a link you have kept stays the list you kept it for.
Saving from one#
Everything on that page is an ordinary website, so the capture you already know works there: AltShiftS to pick several images at once, or AltShiftD for one-click mode. See Your first capture if you have not set that up yet.
Tip
Make a project per subject before a long session on one of these — a project called Space or Pixel art means one-click mode has somewhere to put things, and you never touch the save form.
Suggesting one#
The list is curated by hand rather than crawled, so it stays short enough to read. If a site belongs on it, tell us and we will look at it.
